Our body is a combination of different systems, and each system works individually to help our body in functioning normally.
One of those important systems in our body is the excretory system. And kidneys are the most important organs in the excretory system.
Kidneys are bean-shaped organs that perform several important functions such as:
- Balance water and salt levels
- Excrete wastes and fluids from the body
- Maintain fluid and mineral levels in the body
Just like other organs of our body, kidneys also suffer from problems that impact its functionality. There may be several reasons for the kidneys to not function properly. In this article, we will have a look at three kidney diseases that impact our kidneys’ functionality along with their treatment.
Kidney Stones
Kidney stones are stones that gather up in the kidneys. These stones are made up of minerals and salt that crystallize in the kidneys. They cause a lot of pain and discomfort while urinating.
However, the good news is that if your Nephrologist in Lahore is able to diagnose kidney stones in their initial stages, it can be treated very easily.
Treatment:
If diagnosed early kidney stones can be treated by drinking lots of water and taking prescribed medications. If medication and hydration is unable to help treat kidney stones, patients may need to go through a surgery for removal of these stones.
Chronic Kidney Disease
The most important function of our kidneys is to maintain a balance of fluids and minerals in our body by excreting the extra amount via urine. Chronic Kidney Disease slowly destroys the ability of kidneys to function normally and there comes a point where the kidneys are unable to function without an external supportive treatment called dialysis.
What actually happens when a patient is suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease is, their kidneys stop functioning. This results in an increased amount of fluids in our body which may lead to serious complications and can be fatal if not treated timely.
Treatment:
In the initial stages of Chronic kidney disease medication is prescribed to patients for treatment. Whereas patients whose Chronic kidney disease is past initial stages they may need dialysis or a kidney transplant surgery.
So, if you are at risk of developing chronic kidney disease you must keep a close eye on the development of symptoms. And as soon as you start seeing any symptoms you must rush to your nephrologist immediately. If you are too late to respond and react, it may become a fatal mistake for you.
Urinary Tract Infections
Urinary Tract Infections are bacterial infections that occur in any part of your urinary system. If not treated timely the bacteria from these infections can travel to kidneys and may cause kidney failure.
Urinary Tract Infections are more common in women than men. Some common symptoms of urinary tract infections are bloody urine, pain in the pelvis, frequent uncontrollable urges to urinate, burning or discomfort while urinating.
Treatment:
Most doctors recommend antibiotics to deal with urinary tract infections that patients need to take for a described period of time and the infection goes away. However, sometimes minor surgeries are also required to treat urinary tract infections.
All in all, adequate functionality of kidneys is an absolute necessity for the proper functioning of our body. So one should never ignore any pain or discomfort in or around the kidneys.
What you can do at home to relieve this pain and discomfort is hydrate as much as you and see if your symptoms subside. If they do not subside you should immediately consult a Nephrologist in Islamabad and get a proper checkup and treatment if required.
